January 26 @ 2:00 pm

For more than 130 years, Sherlock Holmes has held a place in the imaginations of people around the world as the most famous detective to ever look through a magnifying glass. He has transcended the written page and become an iconic figure on stage, radio, movies, and television. Which leads to the question: Was Sherlock Holmes real or a work of fiction? Come journey through the fog-filled streets of Victorian London as we attempt to solve the mystery behind the master detective’s fame.

Ray Betzner is a retired higher education communications leader and former daily newspaper reporter. He has been reading the Sherlock Holmes stories since he was a child, and in 1987 was inducted into the international Sherlock Holmes literary society, The Baker Street Irregulars. He teaches a course on Sherlock Holmes for the College of William and Mary OSHER Institute and helps lead the local Holmes group, The DoG Street Irregulars.
