Now in its 19th year, the Throwback Thursday Film Series screens a variety of classic movies for an adult audience.

May Theme:  The Right Stuff (95th anniversary of Lindbergh’s flight across the Atlantic)

May 5:  The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), 2:00-3:15 p.m.
Jimmy Stewart plays Charles Lindbergh in this recreation of his life and heroic solo flight from New York to Paris in May 1927. Based on Lindbergh’s Pulitzer Prize winning book, this film was directed by the great Billy Wilder. NR

May 12:  Amelia (2009), 2:00-3:55 p.m.
The life and flying career of Amelia Earhart is recounted in this biopic starring Hilary Swank, Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor. On May 21, 1932, five years after Lindbergh’s historic flight, Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. PG

May 19:  The Aviator (2004), 2:00-4:50 p.m.
Martin Scorsese directed this terrific biography of Howard Hughes focusing primarily on his career as an aircraft designer and film maker. Nominated for nine Academy Awards and winning five, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Hughes with Cate Blanchett doing stellar work as Katherine Hepburn. PG-13

May 26:  The Right Stuff (1983), 2:00-5:15 p.m.
This epic film about the first fifteen years of the U.S. space program has an all-star cast that includes Sam Shepard, Scott Glenn, Ed Harris, Dennis Quaid and Barbara Hershey. Based on the bestselling non-fiction book by Tom Wolfe, the movie was directed by Philip Kaufman and was nominated for sixteen Academy Awards. PG
