Archaeology and Virginia’s First People: topic at NARFE’s March lunch

March 8, 2022 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

$21.00

Chapter Vice President Will McElfresh, retired Virginia Tech Extension Forester, U.S. Department of Agriculture, will speak at NARFE’s March 8 luncheon.
A past president and long-time member of a Blacksburg, Va., archaeological group, McElfresh has visited numerous Native American archaeological sites across the state. He will discuss how patient field and laboratory work has enabled archaeologists to reconstruct some of the fascinating history and lifeways of the indigenous people of Virginia by uncovering buried clues of their unwritten past.
Tuesday’s luncheon is one of the regular monthly meetings of the Williamsburg Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association that provides fun, fellowship, and timely topics for its members, spouses, and guests.
The luncheon will be held at Colonial Heritage, 6520 Arthur Hills Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23188, with a social gathering at 11:00 a.m. and lunch at 11:30 a.m.
The menu includes a choice of entree, roasted vegetable bisque, and chocolate cream pie for dessert. Entree choices are (1) honey garlic chicken breast with roasted potatoes and broccoli or (2) salmon spinach salad with orange glazed salmon, walnuts, red onions, goat cheese and oranges with a chef-made vinaigrette dressing.
Cost of the luncheon is $21 (cash, check or credit card). Make checks payable to Colonial Heritage. Please RSVP with your choice of entree no later than 5 PM Thursday, March 3, to PZKell@Cox.net.
NARFE Chapter 685 members are retired and active federal civilian employees and their spouses who live in the greater Williamsburg area. In the chapter they find the camaraderie they enjoy as well as active participation in local community-support activities.
The chapter meets monthly for lunch, fellowship, and fun. Members discuss ways they can positively contribute to our community through activities such as raising funds for Alzheimer’s research and contributing food for local charitable pantries.
In addition, chapter members enjoy support of the national organization’s resources that help them better understand the complexities of their federal benefits via webinars, educational conferences, and informative publications. These resources help them make informed decisions regarding their federal health, dental, vision, and flexible spending accounts for the coming year. The national organization’s powerful advocacy also protects their earned pay and benefits.
Membership in NARFE and the Williamsburg chapter is open to current or former federal civilian employees who are or will be eligible to receive an annuity or survivor annuity from the retirement programs of any agency of the United States government. Spouses and surviving spouses of those eligible also are eligible to join NARFE.
