Now in its 20th year, the Throwback Thursday Film Series screens a variety of classic and contemporary movies for an adult audience. All films are shown in the Williamsburg Library Theatre.
February’s theme: City Tours
February 2, 2:00-5:00 p.m.: La Dolce Vita (1960)
Federico Fellini directed this renowned arthouse film about the adventures of a philandering tabloid journalist amongst the celebrity class in Rome. Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, and Anouk Aimée star along with some lovely cinematography of the eternal city. In Italian with English subtitles. NR 2hr 54min
February 9, 2:00-3:45 p.m.: Fargo (1996)
Frances McDormand won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance as a pregnant police chief investigating a monumentally inept kidnapping scheme in the snowbound city of Fargo, North Dakota. William H. Macy and Steve Buscemi costar under the direction of Joel and Ethan Coen in this hilarious dark comedy. R 1hr 38min
February 16, 2:00-3:50 p.m.: The Search (1948)
The bombed-out ruins of post-war Nuremberg provide a haunting backdrop for this poignant drama about a traumatized child survivor of Auschwitz (Ivan Jandl). Cared for by a U.S. soldier (Montgomery Clift), the boy is unaware that his mother is desperately searching for him. Fred Zinnemann directed this movie, the first to be filmed in Germany following the Second World War. NR 1hr 44min
February 23, 2:00-3:45 p.m.: Honeymoon in Vegas (1992)
Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker play a couple whose Las Vegas wedding plans go awry when a shifty gambler becomes besotted with the bride and dupes the groom into a rigged poker game. James Caan and a throng of Elvis impersonators costar under the direction of Andrew Bergman in this fun rom-com. PG-13 1hr 36min
