WRL’s Cinema @ Scotland Street: “Inheritance” (2024) NR

March 17 @ 7:00 pm

Free

In Where I Can’t Follow (WRL and W&M Libraries’ 2025 One Book One Community selection), poverty and opioid addiction overshadow Maren’s community. In a real-live version of her story, filmmakers Matt Moyer and Amy Toensing followed a bright and hopeful boy over 6 years to tell the story of his Appalachian community. In 2016, they began filming the life of Curtis, a bright 12-year old living with a loving family plagued by generations of addiction. Watching him grow up, they also saw the effects of the opioid epidemic on a region already struggling with poverty and joblessness. Featured in The New York Times, his story is the story of communities and children across the country, and his hope to escape those bonds is the hope of a rising generation. Documentary Feature Grand Jury Prize, 2024 Slamdance Festival. 1st Prize, Athens International Film + Video. Bravery Award, Mammoth Lakes Film Festival. NR. 1hr 25min.
