Novel Ideas: A Contemporary Book Group (JCCL)

March 12 @ 2:00 pm

Free

We’ll be handing out copies of Tom Lake for our new book group, Novel Ideas, starting February 1, and you can pick up your copy at either building.
Starting in March, we’ll be meeting at 2 pm the 2nd Wednesdays of each month at the James City County Library to read modern and classic popular fiction. Come to the meetings to get your book each month, or call (757) 741-3300 and choose Option 2 to request your copy.

Discuss Tom Lake by Ann Patchett on March 12.

Three young women implore their mother to tell the story of her brush with fame. Now married to the owner of a cherry orchard in Michigan, Lara was once cast in a Hollywood film, then a stage role at a prestigious summer stock playhouse. There, she met and fell in love with Peter Duke, now an Oscar-winning actor, before his rise to stardom. Lara remembers and selectively tells her daughters of the summer that both changed and made her life.

Grab your copy of Anxious People by Fredrik Backman for April’s discussion.

A real estate open house turns into a hostage situation when a bumbling bank robber runs in. Over the course of the next few hours, while the hapless small town police try to figure out what to do, the hostages form a bond based on their frailties and mistakes.
Let’s get this daytime book group off to a great start!
